BEYONDO: Merchandise

I'm very excited to tell you about my new recording, Beyondo-Deeper Connection. The concept is preserving human relationships, feelings and memories in the age of distracting technologies. The cover art is a heart and a phone, symbolic of the distance between someone thinking of you and the
urgency of the heart. Communication will never be as slow and meaningful as a hand written letter delivered by the pony express. Never the less, technology has its new romance, from my relationship with my computer to your ears. This new recording was created on the macintosh software, Garageband. It was an experiment, because I wasn't convinced that the software would satisfy my need for a Hi-Fi studio sound. The entire record was recorded in my bedroom with one microphone and my favorite piece of equipment called the Yamaha Qy-100 sequencer. I know this gear talk is boring, but I'm just so amazed at the result, and I hope you will be too. I'm basically using very amateur gear to make music that most would think was made in a high end studio, at least that was one of my goals. My primary goal was to create interesting new music that includes horn writing that melds the history of jazz with the new trends in popular music.

Like fermenting wine, these songs have been aging in my musical basement, I've changed my clock battery, atleast 20 times as I wait for the music to mature. This Gambler EP is a collaboration with Producers Stuart Bogie and Paul Cox. I met Stuart while playing with Antibalas, he introduced me to Paul. We went into the studio intermittently for nearly a year and kept cultivating the music. This record was created with love and friendship I hope you enjoy it as much as I am proud of it. You look absolutely great! No rings under your eyes, Teeth are perfectly white, No unibrow, Your pimples are gone, Your skin is young and soft! Now that that's out of the way, you look deep into your pupils and see a carnival, a party, flower bouquets, a concert, a rainbow, a parade and a candy store.
All of this is reflecting in the mirror through the tunnel of your pupil, a tube to your imagination, your knowledge, your regrets, your fears, your passion and love.
Unfortunately every mirror provokes infinite distortion to reality. Whenever you look at your self, your body immediately goes into a state of shock. It's pretty mild but it's enough to make you believe something that's not real. That's just one variable, what about the contour of the mirror, or the lighting, or the smoke from your cigarette. Seeing is not believing when it comes to chrome covered glass.

Invisible Love is like the bread crumbs in a meatball. It's the filler in society. Everyone loves something that doesn't love them back. It keeps us going, when we stop loving we make everything difficult. The vitality we get from the positivity of love is priceless. Mabey it's the risk of love that makes willing to put up with all the less fun stuff of life. The songs on this record are about Invisible Love.

I sing, play trumpet, keyboard and do the drum programming.

In 2001 while playing trumpet with The Monkees I got to see the last boy band created by Lou Perlman (creator of N'SYNC) called Natural. This experience excited me and made me want to be in a boy band, I thought the first step would to be work on my voice with some original songs about love. So I saved my money and bought a Yamaha QY-100 sequencer, which is just a portable manipulatable band in a box, so I could write music in a hotel or on the bus. Then when we would have time off I would practice/record vocals and trumpet in my apartment in Brooklyn. So half the record was written on the road and the other half was written in my apartment. After 9/11 happened finishing this record was my only way out of such depressing air.

This is a fantastic compilation assembled by Martin Perna (Antibalas), the record features member of Antibalas in various/diverse ensembles. There are lots of Surprises! Proceeds will go to the Hurricane Relief Fund, Yes it's still happening! Please support the cause and get some great music.

Old folks can be set in there ways, It's hard to enlighten a person who's values aren't used to being challenged regularly. Old folks being dinosaurs can barely feel our punches. After recording 4 tracks with my father who is a popadactyle, I realized I had a core of tunes for this record. It was a lot of fun to make, I got a chance to capture a nice family feel I think. My sister who is depressingly smart also helped write lyrics on a song called O.C.P (Obsessive Compulsive Person).
I had lots of friends play on this too.
